Neal Franklin (he/Him)
My name is Neal Franklin and I am a journalist that has worked in local reporting in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Washington, D.C., looking to continue that reporting in my professional career.
I am a graduating student at American University in Washington, D.C., studying Foreign Language and Communication Media with specializations in Journalism and Spanish. I have reported on Indigenous communities, LGBTQ+ rights and housing issues. In my reporting I tackle larger issues like pollution as it impacts people on the local level. My strength as a journalist comes from connecting with people in their best and worst moments. I have worked at places like the Tulsa World and Street Sense Media. I have written breaking news stories, investigative articles and features. I also work as Editor-in-Chief at American Way of Life, an on-campus publication. I am originally from Tulsa, OK, where I learned to speak Spanish at an immersion school. I hope to incorporate my knowledge of other languages to reach more people in my reporting. I enjoy reporting on topics that haven't been reported on before or finding new angles on topics explored by others. I think that it is important to find issues that have not previously been reported on in journalism. In my career I hope to explore new and exciting topics that showcase people that are often overlooked. |
